Advent Day 10 – God’s Commandments Show Us What is Important
Advent Day 10 – God’s Commandments Show Us What is Important
Scripture Reading:
“And he said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’” — Matthew 22:37-39 (ESV)
Reflection:
Advent is a season of anticipation and preparation, as we reflect on the coming of Christ—the ultimate expression of God’s love. In Matthew 22:37-39, Jesus reminds us that love is at the heart of everything: love for God and love for others.
As we prepare our hearts during this holy season, we are reminded that Jesus’ birth was an act of love that called us into a relationship with God and with each other. Loving God with all our heart, soul, and mind means surrendering every part of our lives to Him—our desires, thoughts, and actions. It’s a call to prioritize Him above all else, seeking His presence daily.
But Jesus doesn’t stop there. He connects our love for God to our love for others. This Advent, we are challenged to reflect on how we treat our neighbors. Are we extending grace, kindness, and compassion? Are we showing Christ's love in tangible ways to those around us?
Application:
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for loving us so deeply that You sent Your Son to be our Savior. Help us to love You with all our heart, soul, and mind. Teach us to love others as You love us, especially during this Advent season. May our lives reflect the hope and joy of Christ’s coming. Amen.

Application:
- Love God First: Spend time each day this week in prayer or reading the Word, asking God to deepen your love for Him.
- Love Others Well: Identify one way you can demonstrate Christ’s love to someone in need—whether through a kind word, an act of service, or a listening ear.
- Reflect Together: Share with your family or small group how you’re living out these commandments during Advent.
Prayer:
