Advent Day 2 - God Created Us and All Things

Advent Day 2 – God Created Us and All Things

The Apostle John's writings beautifully connect the Old Testament to the New Testament by pointing us to Jesus as the Creator and Sustainer of all things. In John 1:3, we are reminded, “All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made.” This echoes Genesis, where God speaks creation into existence, linking Jesus, the Word, to the beginning of all things.

John also declares in John 1:1, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” This powerful truth establishes Jesus' eternal nature and divinity. John’s Gospel not only reveals Jesus as Creator but also reflects John’s personal identity as "the Beloved"—a close, cherished disciple of Christ. And here's the good news for us: we, too, are the beloved of Christ! Just as John found his identity in being loved by Jesus, we can rest in that same unchanging love.

Paul and Timothy echo this truth in Colossians 1:16-17, where they affirm, “For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible… all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” This reinforces that Jesus is not only the Creator but also the one who holds all of creation—past, present, and future—together.

Take heart, friends! As beloved children of God, we are not only loved but also sustained by the One through whom all things were made. Let this truth anchor your faith and identity today.

Reflection:
If Jesus, the Creator of everything, calls you His beloved, how does that shape the way you view yourself and your circumstances? Let this truth renew your faith and give you a sense of awe, identity, and peace. You are deeply loved, intricately known, and forever held together by the One who made it all.

Prayer:
Jesus, thank You for sharing Your heart with us.  Thank You for loving us the same as You loved Your close friend, John.  Help us to remember to celebrate You and Your life everyday, not just during the Christmas season.  Father, thank You for Your magnificent gift of creation and Your beloved Son, Jesus.  Thank You for the opportunity to see our identity in the Words that are written in the Bible.  Continue to draw Your children.  Bless them, God.  Help them to hear You, see You, and find their rest in the relationship with You.  Amen.
